History

Sally Muaffaq Hazza Alkhdair is an undergraduate student who has just completed her second year of study at Al Albayt University in Mafraq. Inspired by her father, who for many years served Bert de Vries as field director on the Umm el-Jimal Archaeological Project, she is enrolled in the Department of History, where she hopes to research the history of her home city through Arabic and Islamic sources. Besides gaining fundamental contextual knowledge of the region’s history through the university’s textual-historical methodology, she acquires first-hand archaeological experience by assisting at Umm el-Jimal.
