Cody Beasley is a PhD student at The Ohio State University, specializing in the history of the Arabic language. Using a historical-comparative methodology, he studies early Arabic epigraphy, Ancient North Arabian inscriptions, and Islamic literary sources to understand diversity in pre-Islamic and early Islamic Arabic within the wider context of the Semitic language family. He hopes that this research will shed new light on both the consolidation of Classical Arabic grammar and the diversity of modern dialects. Before entering the field of Arabic studies, Cody received a MA in biblical languages with a focus on the Hebrew Bible. He is currently working on the first edition of Arabic inscriptions discovered at the site of Khaybar. Beyond academia, he enjoys spending time outside with his wife and three kids.
