Now Hiring: “Mosaics II” Author

13 January 2022

The American Center of Research, a nonprofit institution dedicated to advancing knowledge of Jordan and the region, past and present, seeks an Author for the production of a book regarding the mosaics of Jordan. In 1992, The Mosaics of Jordan by Michele Piccirillo was published in 383 pages with 824 illustrations. In the 30 years since that work’s creation, significantly more mosaics have been discovered, so we now seek to produce “Mosaics II.” The selected candidate will be in charge of all aspects of the work up to and including the proof stage (excluding only design and typesetting), at which time the project will be considered complete.

This project is expected to be completed in 12 months and should be the primary activity of the candidate selected. That is, this is expected to be a full-time commitment, not a part-time or side project. Other duties in support of the Center’s publication program may be assigned. Much of the work may be performed remotely from anywhere in the world, but visits to Jordan to obtain images, data, etc. are expected. Residence in Jordan for at least four cumulative months is strongly preferred as a matter of practical completion of the project. The position will report to the Assistant Director for Publications; compensation will be based on experience, but will be in the range of $40,000 to $45,000 annualized.

A postgraduate degree is not required, but other evidence of ability to complete such a project must be provided. The work will be published in English, thus written fluency in English is required. Only candidates who have been selected for an interview will be contacted.

Vaccination for COVID-19 is required prior to employment.

To apply: Please submit the following to opportunity@acorjordan.org: 1) a brief cover letter explaining qualifications to successfully complete the project, 2) a proposed schedule for completion, indicating monthly (or more frequent) deliverables (e.g., chapters) by which progress can be tracked, 3) resume/CV, and 4) contact information for two references who can comment on scholarly capacity and reliability.

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
