Lecture, 21 May 2026: “Insights from the Badia Epigraphic Survey (BES): Preliminary Findings and Field Perspectives” by Prof. Ali Al-Manaser

In his lecture, Prof. Ali Al-Manaser of the Hashemite University will shed light on the Badia Epigraphic Survey (BES) Project and its most important results from the various seasons conducted so far. Particular attention will be given to the most recent field season, during which an integrated research team conducted archaeological excavations and surveys in the Badia, leading to the discovery and documentation of new epigraphic and archaeological evidence that contributes to a deeper understanding of the region’s heritage and historical development.

About the Speaker

Ali Al-Manaser is a scholar with dual doctorates from Freie Universität Berlin in archaeology/Semitic languages and cultural resource management, specializing in archaeology, digital archaeology, and pre-Islamic North Arabian epigraphy. He has worked at Freie Universität Berlin, the University of Oxford, and the Jordanian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, and currently serves at the Hashemite University in the Queen Rania Faculty of Tourism and Heritage. He possesses extensive field experience in archaeological excavations and surveys, particularly in the northeastern Jordanian Badia, where he has participated in and supervised several specialized research projects in archaeology and ancient epigraphy. He has also contributed to the development of numerous archaeological digital databases, including projects dedicated to the preservation and documentation of Islamic inscriptions, the publications database of the Department of Antiquities, and several other digital heritage management initiatives related to the documentation and conservation of cultural heritage.
