Jordanian Travel Scholarship for ASOR Annual Meeting

About this fellowship:  Two scholarships for Jordanian scholars or working professionals who have already had an academic paper accepted to be presented at the American Society of Overseas Research (ASOR) Annual Meeting. One award is $3,500 for in-person attendance, to pay the cost of airfare between Jordan an the USA and to partially support other expenses during the conference event.  The other awards ASOR membership and conference registration for participation in the virtual conference.

Every year ACOR distributes up to two travel scholarships to professional Jordanian scholars to present an academic paper at the American Society of Overseas Research’s (ASOR) Annual Meeting. This scholarship is to be applied for in the year of the scheduled meeting.

ASOR hosts its annual meeting in mid-November each year, and the academic program includes sessions on specific, pre-determined themes. To present a paper in one of the ASOR or member-organized sessions, interested scholars must submit applications according to the schedule announced on the ASOR website, where the list of session topics is also posted. It is recommended that scholars interested in delivering a paper in a specific session email the session chair considerably in advance of the abstract deadline to notify the session chair of their interest. All presenters must submit their own applications to be approved by the ASOR program committee.

Abstracts should be submitted electronically using ASOR’s online abstract submission system (www.asor.org/am). Jordanian applicants may submit abstracts without meeting the ASOR membership requirement, but membership will be required for all scholars whose papers are placed on the final program. Abstracts for papers of Jordanian applicants should be submitted to ASOR no later than March 15 annually (check their page closely, as this date may change).

All Jordanian applicants must click a checkbox to indicate that the presenter is from Jordan. This helps identify the scholars and professionals of Jordanian citizenship working in or outside Jordan. All Jordanian applicants whose papers have been accepted to be delivered in the academic program of ASOR’s annual meeting will be considered for this scholarship. Final award selection will be determined by ASOR.

There is currently one award of $3,500 to cover ASOR annual membership fees, registration fee for annual meeting, U.S. visa (to be applied for by awardees in a timely fashion after notice of receipt of funding with letter of acceptance), international airfare from Jordan to the United States, and hotel costs at the meeting. A second award pays for ASOR membership and conference registration for participation in the virtual conference. Each award is funded by ACOR.

Deadline for applications to the ASOR website is March 15 annually.

Applicants will be notified in April annually.
