Fiscal year 2025 was a challenging one. The first half of the year was filled with uncertainty and withdrawn federal grants and the consequential losses that followed. Staff, trustees, and supporters remained resilient and kept the organization on course: aiding fieldwork, awarding fellowships, maintaining the library, offering lectures, publishing, and even self-funding two of our most important formerly grant-funded programs, the National Inventory project and anti-illicit trafficking training.
The second half brought developments no one could have foreseen early in the year: reactivation of some of our federal grants and the awarding of a significant new one.
Our annual report highlights our activities and accomplishments in 2025, including:
- Receipt of a new major grant from the U.S. Embassy in Amman and the U.S. State Department’s Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation: Preservation and Protection of the Holy Land at Herod’s ‘Ain az-Zara Palace and Port to Mukawir;
- Fellowships awarded for 2025–2026;
- Establishment of two new awards: the Jennifer C. Groot II Memorial Fellowship and the Amman Prize;
- Projects to combat the illicit trafficking of cultural property;
- A conservation contract for the Department of Antiquities at Dhiban;
- Installation of solar panels;
- The National Inventory and partnership with Global Digital Heritage;
- Publications and Lectures;
