Johnathan Norris is a PhD Candidate in Anthropology at Boston University. His current research focuses on how state-making practices impact Syrian refugees’ religious and ethical self-cultivation. As such, his project brings together perspectives on religion, ethics and morality, and the nation-state, and queries how these spheres both shape and become shaped by refugees living in protracted displacement. Johnathan also holds a master’s degree in cultural anthropology from Eastern University. Prior to pursuing his PhD, Johnathan worked as a case manager and intensive therapist for at-risk youth in Western Pennsylvania. He is very much looking forward to returning to Jordan for the next year as he completes his dissertation research.
