Sophia De Schiffart is a current PhD student at the University of Connecticut. She completed her MSc in environmental archaeology at University College London, where she was trained as a zooarchaeologist, and her BA in archaeological studies at Yale University. Sophia’s work in Jordan started with her master’s dissertation on the faunal remains from the site of Bawabaat Al-Gazal. This research project explored early traces of caprines in eastern Jordan, contributing to the debate about the introduction of herding to the area. She has been an active member in the Eastern Badia Archaeological Project. Sophia’s research currently focuses on studying the relationship between humans, animal-based subsistence strategies, and the environment during the early Neolithic.
