Nicola Lanzaro obtained his BA in eastern archaeology with honors from L’Orientale University of Naples. He then completed his MA with honors at Sapienza University of Rome, where he is currently pursuing a PhD. His MA thesis investigated the viability of exchange networks in the Early Bronze Age II–IV, focusing on the site of Khirbat az-Zayraqun and the Irbid area. This research employed a topographic approach and GIS tools such as least-cost path analysis. Nicola’s PhD project, titled “Analysis of Road Networks and Exchange Systems in Jordan during Early Bronze Age II–IV,” continues this line of research, exploring the ancient road and trade systems in Jordan. He is currently involved in two archaeological projects in the Levant: the Lebanese-Italian Archaeological Project in the Region of Tyre, Lebanon (since 2022), directed by Dr. Ali Badawi, Dr. Marta D’Andrea, and Dr. May Haider; and the Archaeological Expedition to Khirbat Iskandar, Jordan (since 2023), directed by Dr. Suzanne Richard, Dr. Jesse Long, and Dr. Marta D’Andrea. Nicola’s research interests include landscape archaeology, GIS, and the study of Early Bronze Age exchange systems and connectivity in the Southern Levant.
