Rasha Al-Bader studied chemistry and worked as a chemistry and science teacher. After that, she chose to continue her studies in conservation and management of cultural heritage resources. She helped to conserve the Twelve Great Feast Icon, which was painted on a wooden support dating to the seventeenth century A.D. This icon is part of the Al Maghtas Museum collection on the eastern bank of Jordan River; it has historical and social value, so it was necessary to conserve it for coming generations. Al-Bader and colleagues applied nanoparticles of zinc oxide to treat the damaged wood and to restore the icon. Using her knowledge in the field of chemistry, Al-Bader hopes to complete her studies on using nanoparticles to preserve cultural heritage resources for future generations.
