Christian Sahner, 2013–2014 CAORC Pre-Doctoral Fellow
Christian C. Sahner is an ACOR-CAORC Pre-Doctorate Fellow pursuing research in Jordan between June and August 2014. He is completing his Ph.D. in the Department of History at Princeton on the Christian neomartyrs of the early Islamic period.
Christian studies Byzantine history, the transition from late antiquity to the early Islamic period, and relations between Muslims and Christians. During his stay in Jordan, he is planning to make visits to a number of important sites, including Humeima, the Umayyad desert castles, Jerash, and Petra. Moreover, Christian has a side interest in the Modern Middle East and is looking forward to exploring various cities, villages and cultures in Jordan.
After receiving his AB summa cum laude in Art and Archaeology from Princeton in 2007, Christine then studied as a Rhodes Scholar at St John’s College, Oxford, where he earned his M.Phil with distinction in Arabic and Byzantine Studies in 2009. After that, he returned to Princeton, earning an MA in History with distinction in 2011. Christian came to know about ACOR through his research and travels in the Middle East. He describes his experience in Amman as a “wonderful,” citing the valuable resources in the ACOR library and its friendly and knowledgeable staff.
