AC0R — American Center of Oriental Research November 2009
The current newsletter (Vol. 21.1—Summer 2009) includes an article on Jerusalem written by one of our fellows. Our fellowship program remains a very important part of our mission and photos of the fellows in residence from January to June 2009 show that ACOR assisted many scholars. The summer Arabic Language Program at ACOR is also highlighted here. We share photos of the groups of students who have come to Jordan under the aegis of ACOR. To date we have hosted 156 students in this program and are pleased that several have returned for further research.
There is a summary of the annual appeal responses for these past two years shown in conjunction with the list of donors from January to June 2009 (p. 11). In reflecting on our future needs, the publication fund is one we hope to build up as we have many books still to publish, i.e., three more volumes of Petra Papyri and the reports of the excavations directed by Patricia Bikai on the Petra North Ridge and at Beidha.
Support for the ACOR Library helps strengthen our holdings. We are proud to note that the library was used in this past fiscal year by 13,000 day patrons, including many faculty members and students from Jordanian universities. The new ACOR website (www.acorjordan.org) now hosts PDF versions of each newsletter. We will continue to prepare this newsletter in the format you know but should you prefer not to receive it by mail but read it on line, then send us an email to take you off the mailing list.
